EDUCATION
We have a wide experience of working within the education sector. The practice has delivered a number of projects on site, as part of the contractor team, for Wokingham Council, such as the £2m new build Cox Green School, including classrooms, dining hall and kitchens. We have worked within the private sector and for state schools. Our experience includes early design and master planning, up to delivery on site. Henk took an in depth experience from projects delivered before joining Hives, such as a learning campus in Plymouth, (nursery through to secondary school and including a special needs school with accommodation), a business school building for Exeter University, and a new built secondary school for 1450 pupils in Newbury.
COX GREEN SCHOOL, MAIDENHEAD
As part of the contractor team to deliver the buildings on site, Hives had a significant impact on the design and materials of this new modern building. The brief was for 8 classrooms over a new multi-functional dining room with kitchen and ancillary accommodation. A significant saving, and improvement was made to façade design by use of glazed elements where previously a more expensive, but in our view less elegant FRP system was proposed. We ensured coordination of design with the other specialist design packages, and ensured, using our BIM software, that there was a smooth information flow to client and contractor.
OWLSMOOR
New Primary School extension to provide additional classrooms, new reception classrooms, and refurbishment to reception areas and hall. We worked with the contractor on this design and build project to ensure delivery on time and on budget, by coordination with other consultants, including structures and M+E.
